Metaplanet Bitcoin Investment Clears Super League Shareholder Vote
Super League shareholders have approved proposals related to Metaplanet's plan to create a US-listed Bitcoin treasury platform. This marks a significant step forward for Metaplanet's proposed American Bitcoin treasury vehicle. Shareholders voted in favor of the relevant proposals at their annual meeting on October 16. Under the deal, Metaplanet's US subsidiary will contribute 2,100 Bitcoins and $2.5 million in cash to Super League. Following the closing of the transaction, Super League is expected to change its name to Superplanet and trade under the ticker SUPA. This arrangement provides Metaplanet with a potential US capital markets platform. Super League, in turn, will maintain its existing advertising and media business. However, the shareholder vote does not signify the completion of the transaction. Regulatory filings, Nasdaq requirements, and other closing conditions are still pending, with a target closing in the fourth quarter. The structure of the deal raises questions about ownership allocation, future capital raising, and the risk profile of the Bitcoin-heavy public company.
