Metro Mattress is closing stores and winding down operations: See the list of locations that will shutter
Metro Mattress Corp., a bedding retailer, is liquidating and closing all remaining stores in 2025 after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The company initially sought to restructure and find a buyer, but efforts were unsuccessful. Metro Mattress, based in Syracuse, New York, operated 70 stores across New York and New England before bankruptcy. They closed 30 stores, including all in New England, hoping to focus on New York. The CEO, hired to promote growth, blamed high operating costs and lack of efficiency in New England as cause. Low foot traffic and other factors led to the decision to shut down all stores. The liquidation sales will take place at select New York locations before the spaces are returned to landlords. The company identified 40 New York stores which would close as part of the wind-down, in addition to the stores in the New England area. Metro Mattress joins a list of other retail chains closing due to bankruptcy. These closures reflect challenges like rising costs, weaker consumer spending, and the rise of online shopping.
