Microsoft Abruptly Terminates VeraCrypt Account, Halting Windows Updates

Microsoft has suspended the account used by VeraCrypt, a popular open-source encryption tool, to sign its Windows drivers and bootloader. This move prevents VeraCrypt from releasing Windows updates, impacting the majority of its users. The developer, Mounir Idrassi, stated that Microsoft provided no prior warning or clear explanation for the termination. VeraCrypt allows users to create encrypted partitions and volumes for secure data storage. The software is based on TrueCrypt and allows for hidden volumes to conceal sensitive data. Idrassi announced the issue on SourceForge forums due to the Microsoft account suspension. The inability to release Windows updates poses a significant challenge to VeraCrypt's functionality. Idrassi received a message stating his company, IDRIX, didn't meet verification requirements without specifying the issue. He has been unable to receive helpful responses from Microsoft support, possibly due to AI-generated replies. This situation has left the future of VeraCrypt updates uncertain.
