Microsoft Defender Now Supports Linux Desktops
Microsoft Defender now officially supports Linux desktops. This public preview extends enterprise security to developer workstations. Supported distributions include Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, and RHEL. The offering provides comprehensive features like antivirus and endpoint detection. It also includes vulnerability management and threat hunting capabilities. Onboarding desktops is streamlined for a unified security experience. Organizations familiar with Defender on Linux servers will find the desktop experience identical. Defender can distinguish between data center, cloud, and developer-owned devices. All previously supported Linux server distributions are also supported on desktops. This feature requires Microsoft Defender for Endpoint Plan 2 or specific Microsoft 365 subscriptions.
