Christian Castro, an ICE agent, was arrested in Minneapolis on state charges related to an immigration operation shooting. This arrest occurred eight months after the incident where Castro allegedly fired through a door, injuring a Venezuelan man. The shooting happened during ICE's Operation Metro Surge, which led to protests and the deaths of two U.S. citizens during separate confrontations. Castro's attorneys state he intended to surrender, but law enforcement arrested him downtown. He faces state charges of assault and false reporting, and a federal charge of making false statements to the FBI. Prosecutors allege Castro's account of being attacked during the Jan. 14 incident was untruthful. Video evidence and a joint review by ICE and DOJ reportedly contradicted his statements. Castro had previously been in federal custody in Texas after a grand jury indictment. Texas officials had delayed his extradition to Minnesota for state charges. Minnesota officials have expressed concerns about Castro being a flight risk. Castro's arrest this week follows a federal indictment and his return to Minneapolis. He is currently suspended by ICE.
