A growing majority of Americans, 90%, report that extreme heat has impacted their lives, a rise from 83% two years ago. This increased awareness is evident across various aspects of daily life. Specifically, 80% now acknowledge an impact on their power bills, up from 69%. Outdoor activities are affected for 68% of Americans, an increase from 57%. Travel and vacation plans are now influenced by extreme heat for 42%, a significant jump from 26%. These shifts are partly attributed to recent severe heat events in the West and Midwest. A partisan difference exists, with Democrats more likely to report major impacts from heat. Despite this, the percentage of Americans believing climate change is occurring has declined to 66% from 73% last year. This suggests a disconnect between experienced effects and attribution to climate change. Researchers link more frequent and intense heat waves to climate change.
