My First Steps in a Tough World (SRE/DevOps)

Iriome, a newly minted SRE/DevOps Engineer, reflects on the start of their journey. Seven years prior, Iriome began programming with Unreal Engine blueprints, but later embraced Python with the help of their brother. The allure of AI initially felt overwhelming, yet fueled their resolve to be a programmer through data and determination. Iriome discovered a passion for automating, orchestrating, and monitoring systems, leading them to SRE/DevOps as a stepping stone to MLOps. Focused on this new path, Iriome coded in Python daily and recognized the importance of Linux, prompting exploration of WSL2 and Bash. This exploration culminated in a small monitoring system project that assessed CPU, memory, and disk usage, logged data, and delivered notifications. This project was a practical application that combined coding, Linux skills, and system monitoring, which further solidified their passion. Iriome views these initial steps as filled with uncertainty but driven by persistence and curiosity. The upcoming post will delve into the technical elements of the monitoring project, and its challenges. Iriome encourages readers to stay tuned for future insights into their journey.
