Nancy Pelosi will have an institute named after her at the University of California, Berkeley, upon her retirement from Congress. The Nancy Pelosi Institute for Representative Democracy is slated to open in January 2027. UC Berkeley has already secured $35 million of a $50 million fundraising goal for the institute. This new center will focus on research, teaching, and civic engagement concerning representative democracy and public leadership. The institute's work will concentrate on strengthening American democracy, tackling societal challenges, promoting rights, and ensuring inclusive political leadership. Its location at UC Berkeley aims to provide diverse students with unique opportunities. Pelosi expressed honor in partnering with the university to equip future leaders. UC Berkeley Chancellor Rich Lyons stated the institute will actively work to strengthen democracy. The institute will be established at the progressive institution after Pelosi's congressional tenure ends. Pelosi, 86, is the only woman to have served as House Speaker, holding the position twice.
