A new calendar sharing permission, "Make changes (see private events as free/busy)," is being introduced to Google Calendar. This feature allows users to grant edit access to their calendar while concealing the details of private events. Delegates with this permission will only be able to create, delete, and modify non-private events. Private events will appear as busy blocks to these delegates, with no option to edit or reschedule them. Private events will also be excluded from delegate search results. Additionally, visibility settings for recurring events are changing, with no individual event visibility adjustments possible. Any visibility change will now apply to the entire recurring series. Existing recurring events will adopt the strictest visibility setting within their series. For example, if one event is private, all events in that series will become private. There is no administrator control for this new permission. End users can grant this permission level through Calendar settings. This feature is available to all Google Workspace editions, Workspace Individual, and personal Google accounts. The rollout began on July 7, 2026, and may take longer than 15 days to become fully visible.
