New refinement capabilities allow custom editing with Help me write in Gmail

Gmail users can now refine email drafts with custom text instructions through the prompt bar. Previously, only pre-set options like "Polish" or "Formalize" were available for revisions. This new functionality allows users to provide specific, in-their-own-words instructions to further edit their drafts. For instance, a user can now ask to add a missing detail or specify a deadline directly. Gmail will then instantly update the draft based on these custom prompts. This enhancement also includes the ability to undo or redo edits made through the "Help me write" feature. Admins can check their Gemini for Workspace and Workspace Intelligence settings to ensure this feature is enabled. The update is rolling out now to both Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains, with completion expected by July 20, 2026. This feature is available across various Business, Enterprise, and Consumer plans, as well as specific education add-ons. More information can be found in the Gmail Help Center article on drafting emails with Gemini.
