New Report Finds Some Babies Spend Up To Eight Hours a Day on Screens

A recent report reveals that a significant number of infants and toddlers are using screens extensively. Over two-thirds of babies under two are exposed to screens, with some facing up to eight hours of daily screen time. Alarmingly, nearly a third of newborns watch screens for more than three hours daily. The government advises against screen use for children under two, except for activities such as video calls.Research links excessive screen time to adverse outcomes like obesity, vision problems, and behavioral issues. Children use screens for educational purposes, entertainment, and social interaction. Parents utilize screens to occupy children, facilitating their ability to complete domestic tasks. About a quarter of parents lack childcare options or are unaware of governmental early years programs. The study emphasizes both the prevalence and the potential negative consequences to consider. This widespread screen usage is a concerning trend for the development of young children.
