Nintendo Switch 2 Is Getting a Replaceable Battery in Europe

Nintendo will stop selling the original Switch in Europe in mid-February 2027, nearly 10 years after its launch. The company will release updated versions of the Switch 2 and several controllers to comply with new EU regulations. The EU regulations require user-replaceable batteries, which will be introduced in various Nintendo devices on a rolling basis starting this summer. The updated devices will include the Switch 2, Joy-Con controllers, Joy-Con 2, Switch 2 Pro Controller, and N64 and GameCube Switch controllers. There will be no difference in functionality between the current products and the revised products containing user-replaceable batteries. The Switch 2 is the most notable product being updated, with the new version expected to start rolling out in the fall. The updated versions of the devices will be released ahead of the EU regulations coming into effect on February 18th, 2027. Nintendo notes that the revised products may not become available in all European countries simultaneously due to various factors. The company is making these changes to comply with the new EU regulations, which aim to make devices more sustainable and environmentally friendly. The introduction of user-replaceable batteries is a significant update to Nintendo's lineup, and it will be interesting to see how it affects the company's products and sales in Europe.
