A new bald eagle, KD1, has been observed interacting with Jackie's former mate, Shadow. Jenny Voisard from Friends of Big Bear Valley commented on the public's tendency to humanize these birds. Even before Jackie's passing, other eagles had visited the area and sometimes clashed with her. KD1, a subadult eagle likely born in 2022 and possibly female, became known as "Jolene" due to her closeness with Shadow. KD1 visited Jackie and Shadow's nest shortly after Jackie's death. Fans remain concerned about Shadow, who has been seen near the nest, seemingly focused on eagle activities. The potential for a relationship between Shadow and KD1 is uncertain, and Jackie's absence leaves a significant void. Voisard emphasizes that while it's natural to be curious about animal emotions, human expectations should not be imposed on them, though their protection is crucial. Both Shadow and KD1 are currently unaware of any negative public speculation surrounding their interactions.
