Nvidia's G-Sync Pulsar technology, designed to combat motion blur by addressing old image persistence on the retina, is now available in consumer monitors. Four models from Acer, AOC, Asus, and MSI launched this week, all featuring 27-inch, 1440p IPS panels with refresh rates up to 360 Hz. Pulsar achieves motion clarity comparable to a theoretical 1,000 Hz display. The technology synchronizes its backlight pulsing with G-Sync's variable refresh rate. It emits a backlight pulse for a quarter of a frame just before pixels update, allowing full color transition. This pulsing also minimizes the duration old pixels remain visible to the eye. Unlike previous blur reduction features, Pulsar dynamically adjusts to varying refresh rates. Initial reviews offer contrasting opinions on its effectiveness. Monitors Unboxed praised it as the best motion blur solution available. Conversely, PC Magazine found the improvements marginal and difficult for casual users to perceive.
