Occupancy counting is now enabled for Android-based Neat room hardware, mirroring its availability on ChromeOS devices. This feature allows organizations to understand meeting room utilization patterns. By analyzing occupancy data, companies can make informed decisions about real estate and room design. For example, they can identify if certain rooms are underused due to outdated technology. Administrators can access and download this occupancy data through the Google Admin console as a spreadsheet. The system is designed to not collect or store any personally identifiable information. Data processing for occupancy detection occurs locally on the device, which may mean the camera LED remains off during counting, depending on the hardware vendor. Administrators must enable this feature, as it is off by default. It can be activated at various administrative levels, including domain, organizational unit, or group. This new capability is available to all Google Workspace customers using Neat AOSP hardware with Google Meet.
