Olympian indicted for vandalizing Reflecting Pool
Former Olympic canoeist David Hearn has been indicted for felony destruction of property related to the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. This marks the first indictment secured by prosecutors following President Trump's comments about damage to the pool. U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro stated the indictment seeks accountability for damaging a national treasure. Evidence suggests Hearn violently removed a portion of the pool's bottom liner, causing approximately two square feet of damage. Hearn's attorneys maintain his innocence, calling the charges outrageous and an attempt to shift blame. They claim Hearn was not read his Miranda rights and will contest the investigation. Pirro declined to comment on whether the damaged area was already partially removed. Hearn previously denied damaging the pool in June. His office is investigating about six other cases of alleged vandalism to the Reflecting Pool. These cases range from misdemeanors to violations, with reviews based on evidence.
