OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and 100 Other Companies Call For Action To Defend Against Rogue AI

Over one hundred tech companies, including major AI developers like OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and Microsoft, have co-signed an open letter addressing the escalating threat of AI-related cyberattacks. The letter, also supported by leading cybersecurity firms, financial institutions, and internet infrastructure providers, advocates for innovative cyber defense strategies. It urges governments globally to foster collaborative security efforts. The signatories emphasize that AI-enabled cyberattacks will soon be more prevalent and sophisticated due to advancing AI models. They warn that critical infrastructure, including hospitals, water treatment plants, and internet services, is particularly vulnerable. The letter calls for a "collective response" to these emerging threats. This response involves establishing new partnerships to improve security standards and discover novel solutions. Many of the AI companies signing the letter are simultaneously developing advanced AI models, illustrating a complex dilemma. However, they are also actively creating programs that leverage frontier AI models for defensive applications. Examples include OpenAI's Daybreak, Anthropic's Mythos, and Microsoft's Perception cyber platform.
