OpenAI 'In Early Talks To Give 5% Stake To US Government'
OpenAI is reportedly in early discussions to grant the U.S. government a 5% stake in the company. This potential deal aims to improve industry relations with the Trump administration and garner political support. The idea is to share wealth generated by the AI boom with the public. Other major AI developers might also contribute similar stakes to an investment vehicle. Such a vehicle could resemble the Alaska Permanent Fund, which invests state oil wealth and pays dividends. These talks are described as conceptual and in their initial stages. Any agreement might necessitate an act of Congress for implementation. OpenAI and Anthropic have previously advocated for public or sovereign wealth funds to distribute AI shares. They believe these funds could give every citizen a stake in AI-driven economic growth. This initiative aligns with broader discussions about public access to AI industry wealth.
