Ørsted Sues Trump Administration Over Project Suspension

Ørsted, the world's largest offshore wind developer, is suing the Trump Administration over a lease suspension. The suit concerns the Revolution Wind offshore wind project off the U.S. East Coast. This project is a joint venture between Ørsted and Skyborn Renewables. The U.S. Department of the Interior's Bureau of Ocean Energy Management issued the suspension order on December 22, 2025. The reason cited for the pause was national security concerns. The suspension affects five offshore wind projects, including Revolution Wind, which is nearly complete. Sunrise Wind, another Ørsted project, is also affected and is considering its options. Equinor suspended work on its Empire Wind 1 project due to the same order. This action aligns with the Trump Administration's stance against wind energy. The Administration has historically implemented measures against such projects.
