Raghavendra Cherupalli will present research on illicit Indian call centers operating within Facebook Groups at APWG eCrime. The research classifies nearly 400,000 posts from 90 Facebook Groups using large language models to analyze "Crime-as-a-Service" offerings. DarkTower has gathered nearly a million additional posts from similar groups. These groups facilitate activities like selling tech support popup calls and phishing kits, as demonstrated by users like "Hex Manual." Some individuals, like Manoj Singh, offer email blasting services impersonating legitimate companies to generate calls for scam call centers. Others, such as Krati-Krati, provide targeted "Blue Screen of Death" and IOS pop-up scam calls. Services also extend to money laundering through various payment platforms, exemplified by Brijesh Mohan's offerings. Facebook's moderation has been inconsistent, rejecting many reports of these groups violating community standards. Researchers at the University of Tulsa developed technology to analyze these messages in bulk. The presentation aims to provide insights into the trends and nature of these online scams.
