Client-side encryption (CSE) allows organizations to manage access to their sensitive data using their own encryption keys. This ensures that even third parties, including Google, cannot decipher the data. Google Drive now offers direct file previewing for these CSE-protected files. Previously, users had to download encrypted non-native files to view them. This new capability allows authorized users to preview encrypted content directly within their web browser without leaving Google Drive. This enhancement improves productivity and strengthens security by removing the need for downloads. Currently, the preview feature is only available within Drive and supports encrypted PDF and image files. Administrators with eligible Workspace licenses can enroll in the beta program to gain access. Upon acceptance into the beta, more detailed setup instructions will be provided. For end users in registered domains, the feature will be automatically enabled. This functionality is available for specific Enterprise and Education editions, along with Frontline Plus and Assured Controls.
