Prosecutors are urging a Utah judge to uphold all charges against Tyler James Robinson, including one that carries a potential death sentence. Robinson is accused of killing Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA. The defense argued insufficient evidence for the death penalty and probable cause to proceed to trial. Prosecutors countered that the defense ignored damning facts and misrepresented legal standards. They contend evidence shows others were at risk of death, supporting the capital offense charge. The shooting occurred as Kirk spoke to a large crowd at Utah Valley University. Prosecutors stated evidence strongly links Robinson to the shooting and subsequent cover-up attempts. Robinson faces aggravated murder and six other charges. The judge will decide on probable cause after oral arguments on September 1. Prosecutors believe the evidence is overwhelmingly against Robinson, citing his alleged admissions and supporting forensic and eyewitness testimony. The judge’s decision will determine if the case proceeds to trial.
