Public Transport Hell: Foreigners Commit 53% Of Sexual Crimes On German Trains
German Federal Police reported 98,026 crimes on trains and at stations in the first half of 2026. Foreign nationals were disproportionately represented among suspects of violent, property, and sexual offenses. In sexual offenses, 53 percent of identified suspects were non-German, with Syrians, Poles, and Afghans being the highest represented nationalities. For violent crimes, foreigners constituted about 45 percent of suspects, with Syrians, Poles, Ukrainians, and Afghans being the most frequent. Non-Germans made up 56.4 percent of known suspects in property crimes, with Poles, Ukrainians, and Romanians leading. Foreign nationals comprise around 15 percent of Germany's population, indicating a significant overrepresentation in these crime statistics. Previous years' data also showed similar trends, particularly in knife-related and sexual offenses. Specific incidents like people being pushed onto tracks and knife attacks also involved a notable share of non-German suspects. Major crime hubs included Cologne, Hamburg, and Frankfurt central stations. German officials noted that the migration background of German suspects often remains unrecorded, with many exhibiting foreign-sounding names. An AfD lawmaker criticized these figures as a failure of the government's security policy. This data highlights concerns regarding public safety on German public transport.
