Putin tells Trump Ukraine attacked his residence, which Kyiv denies

Vladimir Putin informed Donald Trump about a drone attack on one of his residences, an event Ukraine denied. Putin indicated Russia would adjust its negotiation stance due to the alleged attack, signaling a potential shift in peace talks. Trump expressed anger at Putin, even though US intelligence hasn't confirmed the attack. Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov claimed air defenses destroyed many long-range drones, lacking evidence, and threatened retaliation. Ukrainian President Zelensky accused Russia of fabricating the attack to disrupt peace efforts and justify further aggression. Putin reportedly told Trump that such actions would not go unanswered and that he still desired peace, while the tone conveyed a hardening stance. The White House described the call as productive, noting Trump briefed Putin on his meeting with Zelensky. Progress had been made on most issues, except for territory, during recent negotiations. Zelensky suggested a referendum on territorial concessions. Putin has rejected a ceasefire and is now possibly using the drone attack to obstruct peace talks. The alleged incident gives Russia a possible justification to abandon diplomatic efforts.
