Python Software Foundation: Announcing the 2026 Python Packaging Council Election Results!

The first Python Packaging Council (PPC) election has successfully concluded with significant community engagement. Seventeen candidates vied for five inaugural council seats. The community actively participated through AMA discussions and reviewing candidates. A total of 541 ballots were cast in this election. Congratulations are extended to the five elected members: Brett Cannon and Pradyun Gedam for two-year terms (Cohort A), and Donald Stufft, Henry Schreiner, and Ralf Gommers for one-year terms (Cohort B). The election structure designates the top two vote-getters to Cohort A with longer terms, while the next three form Cohort B with shorter terms. This staggered approach ensures approximately half of the PPC seats will be up for election in alternating years for two-year terms. Appreciation is also extended to all candidates, voters, and those involved in the PEP 772 discussions and election process. Special thanks were given to Barry Warsaw and Pradyun Gedam as community liaisons and PSF staff and board members. The newly elected members will soon begin onboarding.
