Python Software Foundation: Packaging Council Inaugural Election Dates

A new Python Packaging Council, or PPC, is being established with broad authority over packaging specifications. PEP 772, the Packaging Council governance process, has been approved to formalize its creation. The PPC will serve as the technical decision-making body for interoperability specifications in Python packaging. It will also coordinate the Python packaging ecosystem, working with various community stakeholders. The inaugural PPC election will occur alongside the 2026 Python Software Foundation Board election. Five seats are available, with the top two vote-getters serving two-year terms and the next three serving one-year terms. Future elections will alternate between electing two or three members for two-year terms. To vote, individuals must be Contributing, Supporting, or Fellow PSF members by August 25th and affirm their intention to vote. Nomination and voting timelines are provided, mirroring the PSF Board election schedule. Those interested in running for the PPC should consider their vision for improving Python packaging and their ability to collaborate within the community. The inaugural council will play a key role in establishing initial operating procedures and defining the relationship with PyPA.
