Quarter of Saint Theodore in Pula, Croatia

Saint Theodore's Quarter in Pula, Croatia, is an archaeological site with finds spanning three millennia. Excavations uncovered 27 archaeological layers, over 2,000 amphorae, and evidence of the city's Roman history. The oldest evidence points to the Histri people, an ancient kingdom in Istria. The site housed a stone block with a club symbol, indicating the presence of the Hercules cult. Hercules was revered as Pula's guardian. Today, the excavation site is located in Pula's center, north of the Pula Citadel. In the 20th century, a tobacco warehouse factory occupied the courtyard, which was destroyed by fire in 2002.
