Read Along in Google Classroom is now available to all education users to support foundational literacy
Read Along in Google Classroom, an AI-powered tool for reading aloud support, is now free for all Google Workspace for Education users. This initiative aims to enhance literacy for millions of students and improve educational outcomes. The tool is designed to develop speaking, listening, and decoding skills through flexible learning modes. Students can practice reading aloud with immediate feedback, listen to stories, or read independently. Read Along integrates comprehension questions and word-breakdown support to help students transition from learning to read to reading to learn. Educators can personalize reading practice and gain insights into student progress through a dashboard. This dashboard shows individual and class-wide data on accuracy, speed, comprehension, and phonics skills. The tool offers an extensive content library of over hundreds of books in eight languages, including decodables and publisher titles. It also provides multilingual support, assisting English language learners in their native tongue. Furthermore, educators can create differentiated reading activities using Gemini, tailoring them to specific phonics skills, topics, and reading levels. Existing class content can also be integrated for more personalized support and insights. Read Along is available to Google Workspace for Education Fundamentals, Standard, and Plus editions.
