Request lightweight document alignment with approvals in Google Drive

Google Drive is launching a new feature called alignment approvals designed for collaborative document workflows. This mechanism allows teams to request and track document sign-offs without edits disrupting the approval process. When a document is partially approved, collaborators can continue making changes without invalidating previous approver decisions. Users can initiate alignment approvals through a new checkbox in the standard request dialog. By unchecking the default option "Require all approvers to review the same content," file changes will no longer reset pending approvals. This is ideal for fluid projects where strict content locking is not required, keeping momentum. Approvers can still manually reset their own approval if later edits don't align with their review. This update expands on recent enhancements to Google Drive's approval system, including API management. Alignment approvals are enabled by default and can be managed by administrators, though there's no specific setting for it. End users will have this feature off by default and can choose to enable it for their workflow. The rollout began on June 2, 2024, for rapid release domains and will complete by June 15, 2024, for scheduled release domains. It is available for various Business, Enterprise, and Education editions of Google Workspace.
