Require explicit consent for Take Notes with Gemini, recordings, and transcripts in Google Meet
A new feature is being rolled out to Google Meet that requires explicit consent before recording, transcription, or note-taking begins. Administrators can enable this feature, which is off by default, at the domain, organizational unit, or group level. This setting is located in the Admin console, with further details available in the Help Center. End users do not have a separate setting for this feature. The rollout will begin on May 5, 2026, and may take up to 15 days to become visible for both Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains. Consent for notes, recordings, and transcripts is available in Business Standard and Plus, as well as Enterprise Standard and Plus, and Google AI Pro for Education add-ons. Consent for transcripts and recordings applies to Enterprise Starter, Education Plus, and Teaching and Learning add-ons. Consent for recording is available in Essentials Starter and Enterprise Essentials. This new feature aims to increase participant privacy. Resources in the Google Workspace Admin Help and Google Help provide additional information.
