Google Chat introduces a new "View members" setting, allowing space owners and managers to control who can see the full list of participants. This feature enhances privacy and administrative control, particularly for sensitive, large-scale, or external collaboration spaces. Previously, all members could view the complete participant list. The new setting offers four permission levels: owners only, owners & managers, all members (default), and entire organization. Limiting member visibility is crucial for scenarios like customer spaces, sensitive forums, and confidential projects, where revealing membership could compromise security or privacy. Users will still see the names and profiles of those who actively send messages in the space, regardless of the visibility restriction. This feature has no admin control; end users modify it in Space Settings > Membership > View Members. A gradual rollout began on August 24, 2026, and it's available to all Google Workspace customers.
