Rodrigo Girão Serrão: Explicit lazy imports
Python 3.15 introduces explicit lazy imports to improve application startup times. These imports are indicated by the "lazy" keyword preceding the import statement. While normal imports load modules immediately, lazy imports defer module loading until the module is actually used. This prevents unnecessary overhead during the initial startup phase of a Python application. The article series aims to explain this new feature with clear examples. It will also cover how to write code that is compatible with older Python versions. The existing Python import system loads modules as soon as an import statement is encountered. This can lead to significant delays if many modules are imported at the beginning of a script. Lazy imports address this by only loading modules when they are explicitly accessed. This is particularly beneficial for modules that might not be used in every execution path of an application. The focus is on making Python applications start faster by optimizing the import process.
