Russia Calls On Foreign Embassies To Evacuate Diplomats From Ukrainian Capital
Russia has warned of potential large-scale aerial bombing of Kyiv, urging foreign diplomats to evacuate their staff. The Russian Foreign Ministry cited a Defense Ministry warning about retaliation for any Ukrainian attack linked to the May 9 Victory Day commemorations. Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called for serious consideration of the warning. She accused Ukrainian President Zelensky of making threatening statements about disrupting the commemorations. Zelensky's remarks suggested that Russia's military strength is waning, particularly concerning drones. Last year, similar threats preceded the Victory Day celebrations but did not lead to significant attacks. Russia's ministry issued the evacuation order due to the anticipated retaliatory strike by its armed forces. Russia's planned strike would target decision-making centers within Kyiv. Both sides are currently at odds regarding ceasefire dates, with Putin wanting it on May 8-9 and Zelensky previously suggesting May 5-6. Attacks continue on each country's energy infrastructure leading to casualties and destruction.
