Russia Seizes Assets Of Swiss Food Giant Nestle
Russian authorities, under a decree signed by President Vladimir Putin, seized the remaining businesses and assets of Swiss food giant Nestle and three French groups. The decree transferred the Russian operations of Nestle, Auchan, Leroy Merlin (now Lemana Pro), and FM Logistic to a newly formed company named LEV Management. LEV Management, created in late 2025 and headed by a Russian interior ministry general, reportedly had no prior business activity. This move is the latest in Russia's response to Western sanctions against Moscow following the Ukraine invasion. Many Western companies had already sold or isolated their Russian operations due to sanctions. However, Russia has since made it difficult for firms to exit, sometimes requiring presidential authorization or outright seizure of assets. Nestle stated it is assessing the situation to protect its rights and ensure business continuity, noting that Russia now accounts for a small percentage of its global sales. Auchan and Leroy Merlin, both controlled by the Mulliez family, each operate around a dozen outlets in Russia. This seizure is reminiscent of Moscow's 2023 takeover of Danone's Russian business.
