Samsung Passes Nvidia To Become Most Profitable Company In the World
Samsung's chip division is experiencing unprecedented growth, with projections indicating its 2026 earnings will surpass its cumulative profits from the previous 40 years in the semiconductor industry. This surge is primarily fueled by the escalating demand for memory and storage solutions driven by artificial intelligence. In a significant development, Samsung's latest quarterly operating profit has reportedly exceeded Nvidia's. This achievement positions Samsung as the world's most profitable technology company for that specific period. Brokerage consensus forecasts Samsung's full-year 2026 operating profit to reach approximately 300 trillion won, or $196 billion. The company's second-quarter operating profit was estimated around 84.6 trillion won, or $55.1 billion. Samsung exceeded these expectations, posting $58.5 billion in preliminary results, thereby surpassing Nvidia's $53.54 billion quarterly operating profit. The DS division, Samsung's semiconductor arm, accounted for a substantial 94% of the company's total operating profit in the first quarter of 2026. This impressive performance has led to significant bonuses for Samsung's chip workers, averaging $340,000. The overwhelming success underscores the transformative impact of the AI boom on the semiconductor market.
