Scoop: U.S. seeks UN approval for Gaza security force with broad two-year mandate

The United States proposed a UN Security Council draft resolution to establish an international force in Gaza for at least two years. This "enforcement force" aims to provide security until the end of 2027, with potential extensions. The ISF will secure borders, protect civilians, and train a new Palestinian police force. The force’s mandate includes demilitarizing Gaza by destroying military infrastructure and disarming non-state armed groups. The ISF will facilitate Israel's gradual withdrawal and the Palestinian Authority's reform program. The force will operate in consultation with Egypt and Israel, using all necessary measures within international law. A “Board of Peace,” chaired by President Trump, will oversee the ISF and manage Gaza's reconstruction with funding. This board will supervise a Palestinian technocratic committee for civil administration and aid distribution. Aid will be controlled and delivered by organizations working with the Board of Peace to prevent misuse or diversion. Countries like Indonesia, Azerbaijan, Egypt, and Turkey are considering troop contributions. The force will operate under unified command and prioritize cooperation with involved parties.
