Secondary calendars will now follow the lifecycle of their owner

Google Workspace is implementing a significant change to how secondary calendars are managed, aligning their lifecycle with that of their owners. Previously, secondary calendars had an independent existence, but now they will be deleted when their owner's account is deleted. Similarly, suspending a user will also suspend their owned secondary calendars, mirroring the behavior of primary calendars. This update is designed to improve organizational data governance by ensuring every secondary calendar has a valid owner. To prevent a secondary calendar from being deleted or suspended, its ownership must be transferred to a new user. This must occur before the original owner's account is deleted or suspended. Administrators have the option to transfer secondary calendars via the Admin console or the Calendar API. End users can also transfer their secondary calendars directly within Calendar Settings. The rollout of these changes began on October 5, 2026, with an extended rollout period. This new functionality is available to all Google Workspace customers and Workspace Individual subscribers. Additional resources are available in the Google Workspace Admin Help and Google Help centers.
