Send Gmail end-to-end encrypted emails to anyone
Gmail client-side encryption (CSE) now allows users to send end-to-end encrypted (E2EE) emails to external recipients. This feature simplifies secure communication by enabling recipients to access encrypted messages through a guest account without needing to exchange keys or install custom software. The new capability abstracts away traditional IT complexities, offering enhanced data sovereignty, privacy, and security controls. Admins will need to enable this feature, which is off by default, at the organizational unit or group level. End users who have access to Gmail CSE will find this feature on by default. A gradual rollout for this feature is scheduled to begin on September 30, 2025, for both Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains. This functionality is available for Google Workspace Enterprise Plus customers with the Assured Controls add-on. More information can be found in the Google Help Center and Admin Help resources. The Gmail CSE feature aims to make end-to-end encrypted emails user-friendly for all organizations.
