Simple setup option for Workspace Client-side encryption
Google Workspace is introducing a simplified setup for Client-side encryption (CSE), making it easier and faster for administrators. This new option can have customers operational with CSE in just minutes. It achieves this by combining Cloud HSM Keys with Google Identity, automating a previously time-consuming setup process. With a few clicks, administrators can deploy CSE, reducing deployment time and enabling the protection of sensitive data using existing GCP resources. CSE is used across Workspace applications like email, files, meetings, and events for compliance with regulations such as HIPAA and ITAR. With CSE, data is encrypted by customer keys before reaching Google servers, giving customers sole control. Previously, this required significant technical expertise for setting up third-party key services and identity providers. The simplified setup allows businesses of all sizes to begin encrypting data quickly. For those needing custom configurations with third-party key services, the standard setup method remains available. Admins can find setup instructions in the Help Center, and end users require no action. This feature is available now for both Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains. It is available for Enterprise Plus customers with Assured Controls or Assured Controls Plus add-ons.
