Sinclair Dinosaur Gas Station ... Note

Sinclair Dinosaur Gas Station in Spring Hill, Florida

A colossal concrete dinosaur stands prominently on U.S. 19 in Spring Hill, Florida. This unique structure originated as a Sinclair Service Station, built in 1964. The station's design incorporated Sinclair's iconic green dinosaur logo, making the creature the building itself. Described as Apatosaurus or Brontosaurus-like, the dinosaur measures an impressive 110 feet long, 30 feet wide, and 47 feet high. Its massive body cleverly houses a repair facility. In 1977, local businessman Harold Hurst purchased the station, renaming it Harold's Auto Center. The dinosaur structure endured, unlike many disappearing roadside attractions. It remains a remarkable example of gas station architecture and branding. The site was officially recognized and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2020. This designation confirms the concrete dinosaur's status as a historic relic of midcentury car culture.
