Space X and Tesla exploring merger, CEO Elon Musk says

Elon Musk, CEO of both SpaceX and Tesla, revealed that special committees have been formed to explore a potential merger. He believes combining the companies would be a positive development. This comes as SpaceX and Tesla have increased their collaboration on crucial projects like AI and chip development. Musk, holding leadership roles in both entities, acknowledged his personal conflict of interest, preventing his direct involvement in merger discussions. He highlighted significant potential benefits from unified efforts in areas such as robotics, connectivity, and advanced technologies. However, Musk cautioned that a merger is not a certainty and faces considerable hurdles. A major obstacle is the requirement for approval from 50% of Tesla shareholders, which he described as a substantial challenge. Despite this, tech analyst Gene Munster expressed strong confidence, predicting a 95% likelihood of a deal within the next two years. Munster also believes shareholders would likely back such a combination. The potential merger would involve two companies with immense market valuations, with SpaceX exceeding $2 trillion and Tesla approaching $1.5 trillion.
