Steam On Linux - Down To 3.05% For September?

Steam on Linux experienced a peak in March, reaching approximately 5.33% market share. This figure later receded to around 4%, with projections for September 2026 suggesting a further drop to 3.05%. In contrast, macOS holds 1.92% market share, while Microsoft Windows dominates with 95%. A significant increase in Chinese users, up to 31.39% of the total Steam population, has been observed. These rapid growth surges in Chinese Steam usage typically benefit Windows at the expense of Linux. Some experts suggest these dramatic fluctuations may stem from reporting or sampling inconsistencies. Within the Linux gaming segment, CachyOS has shown remarkable growth, now representing 18.12% of the sampled Linux gaming community. This performance surpasses SteamOS Holo, which accounts for 17.37%. AMD CPUs remain the preferred choice for Linux gamers on Steam, holding over 60% of the market. This dominance is largely attributed to the prevalence of AMD APUs in the Steam Deck and Steam Machines.
