Stellantis to increase U.S. production by 50%

Stellantis will invest $13 billion in the U.S. over four years, creating over 5,000 jobs, marking its largest U.S. investment in a century. This move aims to lessen the impact of President Trump's tariffs by increasing local production. The plan includes producing a new plug-in hybrid SUV and a conventional engine vehicle in Warren, Michigan, starting in 2028. A Detroit factory will be overhauled to manufacture the next-generation Dodge Durango beginning in 2029. The Belvidere, Illinois, plant, previously slated for closure, will reopen to produce the Jeep Cherokee and Jeep Compass. However, plans for a battery plant at Belvidere have reportedly been canceled. Production of a new midsize truck will be moved to Toledo, Ohio, launching in 2028. This truck was originally intended for the Belvidere location. In 2024, over 40% of Stellantis' U.S. sales came from imports. The announcement consolidates both new investments and previously planned projects.
