Google Docs is introducing Gemini-powered comment workflows to enhance collaboration. These new features allow Gemini to read, summarize, and act on comments directly within your document. You can now ask Gemini to synthesize comment threads, extract key themes, or identify outstanding issues. Gemini will also assist in adding new comments based on your instructions or reviewing content as a copy editor. Furthermore, it can draft contextually grounded replies to existing comment threads for faster responses. The tool can also suggest document edits by rewriting sections based on reviewer feedback. To access these capabilities, users can submit queries through the bottom bar or the Gemini side panel. Proactive nudges may also appear to summarize comments or generate replies automatically. These Gemini-powered workflows are available to users with edit access and require Workspace smart features to be enabled. Various Google Workspace editions and add-ons will have access to these features with a gradual rollout beginning July 28, 2026.
