Streamline your data backups with incremental exports for Google Workspace
Google Workspace administrators now have a new, efficient method for backing up organizational data using incremental exports. This feature allows admins to export frequent snapshots of data to their own Google Cloud Storage bucket, avoiding full data re-exports. The primary advantages are significantly faster backup times, reduced Google Cloud Storage usage and associated costs. Furthermore, this enables more frequent backup schedules, thereby lowering the risk of data loss. Administrators can schedule automated exports for Gmail, Drive, and Chat data. These exports can be narrowed down to specific organizational units, groups, or individual users. The system supports periodic full backups for establishing a baseline, occurring quarterly, semi-annually, or annually. Frequent incremental backups supplement these baselines by capturing recent data, such as data from the last few days running every few days. Getting started involves Super Admins visiting the Help Center for instructions; end users require no action. The feature has an extended rollout starting June 24, 2026, for both Rapid and Scheduled Release domains. This new capability is available to Enterprise Plus customers with Assured Controls and Assured Controls Plus.
