The AI-native core: Highly resilient telco architecture using Google Kubernetes Engine

The telecommunications industry faces critical challenges due to rising costs and the demands of the AI era. Modernization is essential, and two main architectural paths exist: cloud-centric evolution and strategic hybrid solutions. Cloud-centric modernization prioritizes agility and scaling by moving workloads to the cloud, offering pay-as-you-grow economics and quicker time to market. Strategic hybrid modernization balances cloud agility with local control, maintaining low latency and meeting data sovereignty requirements. Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) provides a powerful foundation for both approaches, specifically designed for containerized network functions. GKE offers specialized connectivity and isolation features, including multi-networking and simulated L2 networking. Persistent reachability is ensured through GKE IP route and persistent IP, while sub-second convergence minimizes downtime. Modernization facilitates the transition to an autonomous network leveraging AI for predictive AIOps and intent-driven programmability. Cloud-native data allows telcos to monetize insights and identify new revenue opportunities. Google Cloud is presented as a strategic partner, supporting various modernization initiatives with live demonstrations at MWC.
