The European Supervisory Autho... Note

The European Supervisory Authorities (EBA, EIOPA, ESMA – ESAs) publish Joint Guidelines on the system for the exchange of information relevant to fit and proper assessments

The ESAs have developed an F&P Information System to enhance information exchange between EU supervisory authorities across different financial sectors. The Joint Guidelines clarify the use of this system and how data can be exchanged. These guidelines aim to ensure consistent and effective supervisory practices within the ESFS and facilitate information exchange between supervisors. They apply to competent authorities within the ESFS and focus on the use of the F&P Information System and information exchange and cooperation between competent authorities when conducting fitness and propriety assessments. Fitness and propriety assessments are crucial for safe and sound management of financial institutions and contribute to consumer and investor protection and trust in the EU financial sectors. These assessments are a key supervisory tool for ongoing supervision of authorisation and governance processes of financial institutions and financial market participants. The Joint Guidelines aim to ensure that these assessments are conducted effectively and consistently across the EU. The ESAs aim to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of information exchange and cooperation between supervisors. The guidelines are essential for maintaining trust and stability in the EU financial sectors.
