The Hinge founder’s new dating app lets AI be your matchmaker. There’s already a waitlist

Justin McLeod, the founder of Hinge, has launched a new AI-infused matchmaking company called Overtone. He has raised $18 million from investors like Match Group to support its upcoming launch. Overtone aims to redefine matchmaking, moving away from traditional dating apps and their superficial metrics. Instead, it will learn users' stories through their own voices to create curated introductions. The AI will base these introductions on relationship science and thoughtful reflection. McLeod expressed concerns about the misuse of AI in matters of love but believes it can create a better paradigm if approached ethically. Overtone is not intended to be a social platform or a profile-based app. Users will not be juggling numerous matches or endless chats. The company emphasizes a more personal, efficient, and effective way for people to find partners. Overtone will launch later in 2026 in select markets, with a waitlist available now. This venture comes at a time when many dating app users report burnout with current models. Other dating apps are also exploring AI integration to enhance their services.
