The Sculpture Garden of the Museo Sa Bassa Blanca in Alcúdia, Spain
Reaching Museo Sa Bassa Blanca requires navigating a challenging, unpaved road, highlighting the necessity of modern technology for access. The museum's location off the beaten path in the La Victoria peninsula contrasts with typical tourist destinations. Upon arrival, visitors are greeted by a series of peculiar and intriguing sculptures, setting an artistic tone. These are the initial pieces of an extensive art garden featuring one hundred sculptures. Founded by artist couple Yannick Vu and Ben Jakober, the museum's grounds were acquired in 1978. Vu, a Vietnamese-French artist, and Jakober, a Hungarian-Austrian sculptor and former banker, created this unique space. Their diverse artistic creations, often depicting stylized animals, invite interaction and playful engagement. The art garden seamlessly integrates with the natural landscape, featuring elements like olive groves and rose gardens. Beyond the sculpture garden, the museum includes a main house with contemporary art, a collection of historical portraits, and an ethnographic display. Yoko Ono's Wish Tree adds a participatory element, encouraging visitors to share hopes for a better world.
