The Japanese Ministry continued to appeal to the Trump administration multiple times in June through the US Embassy. They requested consideration for the potential harm to these IPs when used in US policy and pro-war content without permission. Beyond government concerns, Japanese anime fans have also voiced strong opposition. A "Protect Japanese Manga" petition launched by Nana Suzuki has garnered international attention and was submitted to the Japanese Cabinet Office. Renewed backlash erupted in June when President Trump shared an AI-generated video depicting himself as Naruto. This incident prompted the petition organizer to reopen the petition to protest and lobby the Japanese government. Cabinet Minister Kimi Onoda reaffirmed Japan's stance, emphasizing that obtaining copyright holder permission is fundamental for fair use. This position has been communicated several times to the US government through diplomatic channels.
